Sunday October 14

Introduction 4 hours
- Drawing: Right-Left Brain Hemispheres
(myth or reality)
- The Magic of Line: line as communication, self expression, means of interpretation, line as illusion.
(art historical examples: Picasso, Matise, Miro, Ballmer, Hofker, and Bonnet)
- Practical work based on theoretical considerations
The drawings produced will later be developed into paintings.

Afternoon

Perceptions of Balinese Culture (Vivek) 2 hours
- Geography and mentality
- Bali Aga and pre-history

Evening

- Cultural performance 2 hours
-Ubud palace

Monday October 15
 
Morning
Bali chronicles and history (Vivek) 2 hours
-Balinese and non-Balinese perceptions of history
Afternoon

Visit the art village and gallery of Batuan 4 hours
-Benda family of painters

Visit to the famous art village of Batuan in Gianyar near Ubud to meet the well known Benda family of artists. To visit their studios and galleries and to learn from their techniques and traditions.

Tuesday October 16

Balinese Religion and Religious Concepts (Vivek) 3 hours
- The Epics: Ramayana and Mahabharata
Afternoon

Hands-on work following up the visit to Batuan 3 hours
-Myths, Personal Dreams, Tropical Reality

Wednesday

Color theory - Rudolph Steiner 4 hours
- Medium: chalk pastels
- Visit to Neka gallery (Ubud)

Afternoon

Visit to ARMA museum (Ubud) 4 hours
- Follow up on drawing and visual creative ideas

Thursday October 18

Balinese culture and aesthetics 3 hours
- Aesthetic concepts
- Intro. to Balinese arts, dance, music, poetry

Afternoon

Field trip to Puri Anyar Kerambitan 6 hours
- Historical palace
- Balinese history, culture, cuisine

Friday October 19
Morning
Visit to Antonio Blanco Museum and Seka Museum (Ubud)
3 hours
Afternoon

Aspects of Balinese culture 2 hours
- Language, family, magic and mysticism

Evening

Cultural performance at Ubud 2 hours
- Kecak & Fire Dance

Saturday October 20
Morning

Bali Today - Cultural and Environmental Perspectives (Vivek)
4 hours
- Drawings/painting presentation and critique Course evaluation
- Discussion about the links between the different parts of the course as a whole and individual meaning and interpretation.
