Bruce Sherratt

B.C.A.C. was founded by Bruce Sherratt, a deeply committed and very experienced practicing artist and international art educator. Bruce obtained an advanced degree in drawing and painting in London, England and a further degree in Art Education at the University of Wales U.K. Bruce has exhibited widely and taught visual art at several major international schools around the world. He is an active veteran examiner in Visual Arts for the International Baccalaureate Organization. Bruce is based in Bali at the B.C.A.C. and has a studio and home in Jakarta where he also presents courses and instruction.


Bruce is a surrealist painter with a strong background in psycho-therapeutic approach to teaching. He also has a background Buddhist studies and philosophy and has done substantial work the on Rudolph Steinerfs color theory. His courses for credit are primary skills based and combine practical, hands-on instruction accompanied by the theoretical and art historical considerations that underpin creative work in the arts. The more vocational courses place less importance on theory and greater emphasis on the mere joy of creating art in the exquisite and culturally rich environment that is Bali.

Vivek Bammi

Dr. Bammi is a committed and experienced international educator who completed his doctorate in history at Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh, U.S.A. and an M.A. in Social Anthropology at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, U.K. He teaches social sciences and philosophy at Jakarta International School and is the International Baccalaureate Deputy Chief Examiner for the Theory of Knowledge (TOK).

Vivek Bammifs knowledge of world religions is formidable. His understanding of Balinese Hinduism and the history and culture of Bali gives course participants a fascinating array of insights and perspectives, not just on the Bali of the past but on the complex realities of present day Bali as well.

James Penha

James Penha has been teaching poetry and creative writing at universities and high school in America and Asia for forty years. No Bones to Carry, a new volume of his own poems, is forthcoming from New Sins Press in the US. It joins two previous volumes of verse and hundreds of poems and stories published in journals, anthologies, and online in the past tree decades. gJackh edits The New Verse News, a Web site publishing progressive poetry by writers around the world on current events and issues. He holds a Ph.D. from New York University.
