COURSE OBJECTIVES
Participants will:
- develop basic skills and gain confidence and pleasure in drawing and painting
- develop spontaneity and a willingness to take risks when creating art
- understand the process of artistic creativity and its theoretical underpinnings through practical experience and introduction to theories of creativity
- develop the ability to express ideas, feelings and emotions visually (non verbally) in a variety of art media
- deepen and extend their understanding and appreciation of the formal elements and principles of art
- gain confidence in making qualitative judgments about art based on knowledge and personal experience
- enhance and/or increase their general creativity through a series of creative experiences that encourage imagination and originality

perceive and recognize the revelevance of creative artistic experience to their own areas of expertise and recognize ways in which this can constructively influence/benefit their work as educators.

Unit One: Creativity: definition - introduction to basic theories and concepts

Unit Two: Objective Realism and Abstraction - A comparative study.
- Study of examples from art history
- Practical work in both areas (abstraction-realism)
